HISTORY
Padel was invented in 1969 by Enrique Corcuera in Acapulco, Mexico. He adapted his tennis court to fit into a smaller space, adding walls to keep the ball in play. The sport quickly spread to Spain and Argentina, and today over 25 million people play padel across 90+ countries. Spain alone has more than 4 million players and 20,000 courts.

THE BASICS
01
An enclosed 10×20m court surrounded by glass and metal mesh walls. The ball can bounce off the walls, creating exciting rally variations impossible in tennis.
02
A solid, perforated racket with no strings — much easier to control than tennis. The ball is similar to a tennis ball but with slightly less pressure for longer rallies.
03
Scoring is identical to tennis. Always played in doubles. The serve is underarm below waist height. Balls can be played off the walls after bouncing, adding a strategic dimension.
THE APPEAL
Always played in doubles, padel is inherently social. The enclosed court means rallies last longer, making it more fun for beginners. You spend more time playing and less time chasing balls.
Most beginners can play a full game within the first hour. The walls create unique tactical angles, and the underarm serve removes one of the biggest barriers in tennis. Yet at the top level, padel is breathtakingly strategic.
An hour of padel burns between 400–600 calories. The short sprints, lateral movements and rotational shots develop agility, endurance and coordination in a way few other sports can match.
Padel is the second most-played sport in Spain and Argentina. It's exploding across Europe — from Sweden to the Netherlands, UK to Germany. The World Padel Tour attracts millions of viewers globally.
